The Light’s Right continues to grow. Tens of thousands of visitors download content each week. Expanding the content and features to make this a community site means more demands on the Web server in the future. Contributions have made it possible to deliver basic content without advertising or subscriptions. We’re extremely grateful for the help we’ve received.
Our goal for the next twelve months is to be able to share 3000 GB of information every month and to increase that to 30,000 GB by 2010. The cost for Web access by just one server with 100mbps connection that can support that much bandwidth is close to $1,500 per month. Limited advertising and sponsorship is critical to future expansion. So, is a benefactor program. Benefactors help pay for fixed costs of running this site. (Donations in any amount are also welcome.)
Benefactors contribute $50 annually. They receive the following benefits:
- View The Light’s Right site free from outside advertising;
- Free downloads of premium video content;
- 10% discount on all eBooks, full length videos, and subscriptions;
- 10% discount on all workshops;
- 10% discount any all merchandaise;
- Benefactor-only forum;
- Benefactor-only newsletter.
Added Benefit! Benefactors receive access to the electronic download version of Sharpening Your Photographs eBook.

How does one access this freebie?
Re. "Added Benefit!"
That's a good question!
I have sent occasionl announcements to the current Benefactors.
For discounts, just ask me for a coupon code. Otherwise, if you order by mistake without a coupon code, let me know you ordered something and I'll refund 10% right away via Paypal.
This new set of videos for the TLR Professional Sharpening Actions Panels will be the first set of premium content. I will enable access for Benefactors to the download page. You will have to be logged on to access the page, since your Benefactor credentials is tied to your user name on the site.
I do intend more premium content.
Short videos that are a few minutes long will remain free to everyone, even unregistered users. IOW, the typical videos that you find on this site will still be free. All the tutorials, tips, etc.
Premium content will be longer and will help people make fuller use of the various tools and toolkits. Of course, the tools and toolkits will remain free, too.
This enhanced documentation for the TLR Professional Sharpening Actions Panels will include more than a few minutes of video. There will be a brief manual. Plus it will cover the basics of sharpening, the idea of multipass sharpeniing, what the options are with the panels, how to modify the actions, and (probably) how to use the actions as batch processes or droplet.
It will not be as complete as my sharpening eBook/video. But it will be much more than a brief five minute video that introduces the three panels.
My idea is that the tools, tutorials, tips, etc. all remain free to all digital photographers. For those who want fuller explanations that consume a lot of bandwidth, a small charge will help to defray costs.
How long until this new documentation is ready? ASAP. I'll be spending a large of today cutting the video. Then I'll need to edit it. Each minute of video takes somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour to edit, compress, etc.
