DevelopingPhotosThatPop_Part3.jpg

Part 3 continues the discussion of the concepts of tonal range, contrast, and brightness by explaining how to use the Photoshop Levels and Curves dialogs. The discussion goes beyond the basics of Levels and Curves to explain how layer masks can help you refine your tonality adjustments.

Another excellent chapter - but some areas to improve

I loved this chapter like the other 2 before that, but I found myself somewhat confused by casual discussions of masking that seem to require higher level of skill than the rest of the chapter and masking was not properly introduced in these series. I would leave masking out until we get a good grounding in this are from other parts.

I like this chapter because it continues to give me a good insight into tools that I use, but not always fully understand all the concepts and consequences of my actions. This series are the best coverage of the subject I have ever seen - it fits my style of learning which is anchored by conceptual understanding first and mechanics of how to after.
