Using Photoshop Actions in Photoshop Elements 8
LayersPalette.png

Photoshop Elements 8 continues open support for Photoshop actions that began with the Action Player in PSE 7. This opens up many automation opportunities. The one limit, of course, is that the actions can only invoke features supported in Photoshop Elements 8.

That covers a lot of functionality. But it also means than many actins will have to be rewritten. Some will be completely unavailable. The first action set converted for PSE 8 is the TLR B&W Toning for Photoshop Elements action set.

To add an action set, you copy the .ATN file for the action set to the correct folder.

Windows XP  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions

Vista  C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Locale\en_US\Workflow Panels\actions

The next time you start PSE 8, the actions will be available in Guided Edit mode from the Action Player.

Below is a before and after example of the TLR B&W Toning for Photoshop Elements action set using a gray green tone.

With TLR actions for Photoshop Elements, the effects will be accomplished with Gradient adjustment layers. That makes them easily adjustable.
