Mark S. Johnson offers some excellent video tutorials. His video on creating a four-panel collage caught my interest this morning. It's  very nice effect, and Mark does an excellent job of describing the steps.

Mark S. Johnson credits this technique to Jack and Linnea Davis. It's an interesting special effect for panoramas. Especially helpful when you didn't use a tripod for your panorama.

Torn Paper Effect

Photoshop is useful for creating illustrations with special edge effects. Janee Aronoff offers lots of tutorials on her site, MyJanee.com.

In her tutorial on creating a torn paper, you will not only learn how to make a torn paper effect, but you will also get some practice with some interesting techniques, including the following:

  • Making a texture (Wheathatch paper and Cotton Scroll paper)
  • Using a Layer Mask
  • Making a Shadow in a difficult situation.

This is an action set producing translucent photo mats. The set contains one action to prep your image and four others that each apply a different border-type mat to the photo. These effects are meant to give a pleasing border effect and also really set off the center of the photo.

Here's a very nice frame effet that I learned from Scott Kelby. If you're not familiar with Scott Kelby, he's the president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP). He's also an excellent speaker and coach on Photoshop techniques. He is definitely one of my favorites!

TLR Edge Effects is a collection of Photoshop actions for adding popular edge effects to your photographic images.

Adding an edge effect begins by invoking one of the "Create Framed Edge" or "Create Unframed Edge" actions from the actions menu. Use one of the "Create Framed Edge" actions to add an optional black "Frame" layer for added visual impact.
